Tamil Nadu – the land of Tamils is a state in Southern India known for its temples and architecture, food, movies and classical Indian dance and Carnatic music. The languages spoken here are predominantly Tamil (also written as Thamizh) and English in the larger cities and metro capital Chennai.
Day 01 Arrival at Madurai.
Madurai is one of India’s oldest cities dating from the 6th century BC. And today an important cultural, religious and commercial centre of South India. On arrival check in at the hotel. Later Visit Meenakshi temple – complex of 15 acres, and has 4,500 pillars and 12 towers carried out during the reign of Tirumalai Nayak from 1623-55. Also see the Night ceremony at the temple. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 02 Madurai – Rameswaram (190 kms/4 hrs)
Breakfast at the Hotel. Later stroll around Madurai and Visit Tirumala Nayak Palace. Departure for Rameswaram – one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in India & is referred to as the Banaras of the South. After Lunch Visit of the Magnificent Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This Shivastalam is considered to be one of the holiest shrines in India. It represents the southernmost of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India. A huge temple in the island of Rameswaram (reached via the Pamban Bridge across the sea), Rameswaram is known for its long ornate corridors and towers and 36 Teerthas. overnight stay at hotel.
Day 03 Rameswaram
Breakfast. Free time in the Morning to Visit the temple again, if interested. Later the day Visit Dhanushkodi ruins and the Beach, Dhanushkodi is an abandoned town at the south-eastern tip of Pamban Island. It is south-east of Pamban and less than 25 kms of Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. This mystic town was destroyed during the 1964 Rameswaram cyclone and remains uninhabited in the aftermath. Back to Hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 04 Rameswaram – Kanyakumari (260 kms/6 Hrs)
Early breakfast, Drive to Kanyakumari. Kanyakumari is a coastal town in the state of Tamil Nadu on India’s southern tip. Jutting into the Laccadive Sea, the town was known as Cape Comorin during British rule and is popular for watching sunrise and sunset over the ocean. On arrival Check in at the Hotel. Enjoy sunset at Vivekananda Rock – amidst the Sea. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 05 Kanyakumari – Trivandrum (120 kms/ 2 ½ Hrs)
Breakfast at the Hotel. Leave for Trivandrum. En route Visit Padmanabhapuram palace – The Summer palace of the erstwhile Travancore Kingdom and Suchindram Temple – well known for its musical pillars. Arrive and Check in at the Hotel. Optional Free Time on Kovalam Beach. Arrive Trivandrum.Overnight stay.
Day 06 Trivandrum Sightseeing – Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Trivandrum for a city sightseeing tour. This includes visit to Sri Padmanabha swami temple and the Ganesha temple. (The Padmanabha swami temple has a strict dress code- Women are required to wear sarees, (set-mundu), skirt and blouse, or half-saree. Men are similarly required to wear dhoti and go bare in the torso). Also Visit the Botanical Gardens, Napier Museum and the Art Gallery. Transfer to Airport /Railway station for homebound Journey
