PANCHALIMEDU
Panchalimedu is a hill station and view point near Kuttikkanam in Peerumedu. According to legends, ‘Pandavas’ (heroes of the epic – Mahabharata) stayed at this place, in exile with theor only Spouse Panchali and hence the name Panchalimedu. Many Ayyappa devotees camp here to witness the sacred Makaravilakku – the Divine Light- near Ayyappa temple. The remnants of Shivalingas, thrishul, naga idols are still there. The Pictersque small pond here is known as ‘Panchali Kulam’. As It is said that Panchali used to take bath in this pond.
PINE FOREST VISIT
Pine Forest at Kuttikkanam, is man made, covering 100 acres. This dense pine forest contains an estimated 30 species of birds, including rare endangered species. It is classified as a buffer zone by the Department of Forests and Wildlife, Kerala State Government.
Madammakkulam waterfalls
Madammakkulam waterfalls, is a natural pond under a gushing waterfall, encircled by deep woods, this was a favourite spot of British planters in the colonial times. The pond has been named Madam’s pond or Madammakkulam, after a British lady who used to bless the place with her presence.
